What to do in an emergency
|
Ring 999 if you or a member of your family:
- has had a major accident
- has problems with breathing
- has sudden chest pain and is feeling clammy
- is unconscious
- has lost a lot of blood
In all other cases, NHS Direct 0845 46 47 can
tell you what to do if you or your family are feeling ill.
Depending upon what is wrong with you, NHS Direct
can tell you how to self-care, get in touch with the
out of hours GP service, go to a walk-in centre or go
to hospital. NHS Direct may need to call an
ambulance for you if they think you need help
quickly.
What to do when the surgery is closed
|
If you need a doctor after 6pm during the week, at weekends
and during bank holidays, you can contact the OUT of HOURS
SERVICE, currently run by Primecare 0845 603 3131
Outside surgery hours, call the usual surgery number (890400)
and listen to the message - it will tell you how to contact
Primecare. If you need to see a doctor and are able to travel by
car, you may be asked to attend their clinic. If you are too ill to
travel, a doctor or paramedic may visit your home according to
your medical needs.
HOME VISITS If you feel you require a home visit, please ring the surgery (890400), and tell the Receptionist your details and the medical problem you have. You may receive a phone call from the doctor to enquire further about your problem. If the doctor thinks a home visit is appropriate, he will visit you during working hours. There is no set time for visits, as they have to be prioritised depending on the medical need.
Please try to put your request for home visit before 10.30 am when possible.

SICK NOTES
- You do not need a sick note in the first seven days of an illness. You must fill
in a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer and from the Surgery Reception.
- After the first seven days, and you are still ill, you will need to make an
appointment to see your doctor. You will then be given a sick note, only if he considers you unfit to return to work.
- If you wish to have a sick note in the first seven days of illness, and your
doctor considers you unfit for work, you may be issued with a private certificate. This will attract a fee.
